Security and Intelligence in Africa
Tomorrow · 5:00 PM Elliott School of International Affairs · Foggy Bottom
Featuring the leader of opposition for Mozambique Hon. Venancio Mondlane, our event will provide insights into continental security. The continent has been faced with many relevant security challenges over the past few decades and especially recently. Notable issues include the Association of African States defecting from ECOWAS and instability in Cabo Delgado as a result of terrorist instability. Great powers tend to treat the continent as an area where they can build spheres of influence but what exactly do Africans themselves think of security in the continent? Would investment in domestic economic development, anti corruption drives in collaboration with local authorities, and industrialization rather than aid hand outs or political manipulation better help the continent tackle its security challenges? Join us for an upcoming session focused on Security and Intelligence in Africa to learn more from African voices featuring virtual participation from the Leader Of Opposition from the Republic of Mozambique. Hope to see you there. Speakers Hon. Venacio Mondlane, Leader of Opposition, Republic of Mozambique (virtual)Charlie Snyder IWP Professor, former Senior Representative to Sudan at Department of StateElizabete Cuna, Director of Foreign Affairs and Diplomacy, ANAMOLAPearl Matibe, International Security, U.S.–Africa Policy Analyst, and founder of The Shaka Spear (moderator)
