Open Studio: Thankful for Art
Sat, Nov 28 · 10:00 AM Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden · National Mall
It’s all about sculpture this November at Open Studio. Each week, we’ll draw inspiration from the Museum’s newly renovated Sculpture Garden and learn about artists such as Alberto Giacometti, Mark Grotjahn, Raven Halfmoon, and more. Join us this week as we learn about Halfmoon and her artwork Dancing at Dusk (2024). Halfmoon is a member of the Caddo Nation in Oklahoma. Much of her artwork is made using the coil-built technique, a tradition passed down through generations of Caddo women. Then, inspired by her artistic practice, we’ll work with clay to make coil-built sculptures of our own! Meet in Art School on the Museum’s Lower Level. ABOUT OPEN STUDIO Let your creativity run wild at Open Studio! Drop in to explore modern and contemporary art through interactive hands-on activities inspired by the Hirshhorn collection and artworks on view. Open Studio helps you transform your ideas into reality. Every session introduces a new theme and a fresh perspective on art-making. Activities are designed to captivate everyone—from budding young artists to seasoned creators—and allow them to craft, create, and learn. No reservations or tickets are required. Stroller parking is available in the Hirshhorn Lobby and on the Lower Level. If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact [email protected] . We appreciate receiving such requests at least one to two weeks in advance. For a group of 10 or more, please contact [email protected] in advance to reserve a program.
