Puro Ritmo! The Musical Journey of Salsa Exhibition Highlights Tour

Fri, Nov 6 · 10:30 AM National Museum of American History · National Mall

Experience the rhythm, history, and energy of salsa music through a guided tour of "¡Puro Ritmo! The Musical Journey of Salsa," a bilingual multimedia exhibition presented by the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Latino and on view in the Molina Family Latino Gallery at the National Museum of American History. This vibrant exhibition traces salsa’s journey from its Afro-Cuban roots to its rise as a defining sound in American music. Featuring nearly 300 artifacts—including instruments, performance attire, album covers, and rare memorabilia—the exhibition highlights legendary artists like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente alongside the musicians, dancers, and communities who shaped this global tradition. During this 45-minute guided tour, visitors will explore the music, stories, and cultural movements that brought salsa from Caribbean rhythms to dance floors across the United States. Along the way, you’ll engage with interactive experiences that reveal the heartbeat of salsa—the clave—and the musical styles that contributed to the genre’s evolution. The tour concludes with a special moment to step onto the dance floor and become part of the show. Tours may include multiple families, individuals, or groups in the same session. Capacity is limited, so advance registration is recommended. Please note: These tours are not meant for school groups. For school groups, please email [email protected] Tour Details Duration: 45 minutes Languages: English, Spanish, or bilingual Recommended Age: Elementary school students and older Should you need assistance such as ASL interpretation, please email [email protected] with your name, date of program, and request and the museum will respond with further information. Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
