Pack the Revenue Hearing with Free DC and partners

Fri, Oct 16 · 10:00 AM Wilson Building · Downtown DC

Join Fair Budget Coalition and partners on Friday, October 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilson Building to pack the revenue hearing where the Council will consider tax policies to fund a budget for the people! Last June, our budget included harsh cuts to programs that serve our communities - emergency rental assistance, health care, nutrition and food, assistance for the poorest children, and more. New revenue is critical for meeting the needs and helping communities make ends meet. The Council will be exploring different tax policies to improve DC’s future. We particularly support the Wealth Proceeds Tax, which would tax the passive income of very high income households - such as capital gains, dividends, interest, annuities, and other investments that grow wealth and are currently undertaxed. This proposal only affects individuals making over $400K, and married couples making over $500K. Over 96% of those who would pay the tax are millionaires . It would generate $200 million and raise hundreds of millions in subsequent years - money which could be used almost immediately by the new mayor to restore the cuts to essential programs and services! Come join Free DC, Fair Budget Coalition, and many other organizations as we pack the hearing room all day! You are welcomed to join for as long as you can. Council members need to see us there, holding them accountable for getting revenue that will fund our communities! We will not accept delays as community members endure high unemployment/low pay, unaffordable rent, and a safety net that is stretched too thin. The Council can pass this bill before the end of the year so that the new mayor is able to fund all the programs that have been shortchanged for too long. Let us know you're coming

Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
