Capital M Presents: Nature + Nurture

Today · 3:00 PM Temperance Alley Garden · U Street Corridor

Join us for Capital M Presents: Nature + Nurture, a garden gathering exploring what we nurture and what nurtures us. Capital M Presents: Nature + Nurture Nature + Nurture is our first gathering in a community garden and the beginning of an exploration we hope to continue in gardens across the city. As Capital M asks how DC shapes motherhood, we’re interested in the spaces within the city that give something back to mothers. Together, we'll slow down, spend time in the garden, engage with selected readings and reflect on the people, places and practices that sustain us. We’ll gather around a simple question: What are you nurturing right now, and what is nurturing you? Consider the places throughout DC where you feel cared for, connected and restored as Capital M begins documenting the spaces that nurture mothers across the city. What to Expect A relaxed, facilitated garden gathering with time to read, reflect, connect with other DC mothers and share as much or as little as you choose. Children are welcome to attend and enjoy the garden alongside you. About Capital M This event is part of Capital M: Exploring Motherhood Across Wards and Generations in DC, a multimedia community storytelling and humanities project documenting and celebrating the lived experiences of DC mothers. Using oral history, public storytelling, facilitated dialogue, and a culminating community exhibition, the project examines a singular question: “How does Washington, DC shape the experience of motherhood — and how do mothers shape the Nation’s Capital in return?” Organized around four pillars: Maternal Health, Place-Based Parenting, Work & Worth, and Legacy & Leadership, Capital M preserves cultural memory at a moment when DC is redefining itself demographically, economically, and politically, while inviting residents to reflect on who raised us, who we are raising, and how the city participates in that story. Capital M is a recipient of Humanities DC’s 2026 Community Culture & Heritage Grant, with additional funding sources in progress. Photography + Recording Notice By registering for and attending this event, you acknowledge that photography, audio recording, and video recording may take place throughout the program. By participating, you grant Capital M permission to capture and use your image, voice, and likeness in photographs, video, audio recordings, and other documentation for promotional, educational, archival, grant reporting, and exhibition purposes, including on our website, social media channels, publications, and future Capital M programming.

Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
