About the book SOUL SEARCHER: Life and Legend of Chuck Brown is an introduction to the genius of Chuck Brown, the "Godfather of Go-Go," and his contribution to hip-hop and pop culture. The book chronicles his musical life from the first album, "We the People" to his posthumous album, "Beautiful Life." It details Brown's influence on the early bands including Rare Essence, E.U., Trouble Funk, and Junk Yard Band. It also documents the history of fierce competition between D.C. bands in the 70's, and DJ's who inspired Chuck Brown to create a transition beat that would ultimately provide the space for the "go-go pocket." SOUL SEARCHER serves as a blueprint for the study of one of the most important figures in Black music history and notable legends of Washington, D.C. including Frederick Douglass, Marvin Gaye, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Duke Ellington, John Thompson, and Mayor Marion Barry. About the Author Welcome to the world of Go-Go music, seen through the eyes of its dedicated preserver. As Director of Tours and Curator for the Go-Go Museum in Washington, D.C., Sundiata Ramin has the privilege of immersing himself in the vibrant legacy of Chuck Brown, the undisputed Godfather of Go-Go.
