HOLD THE POINT!

Fri, Oct 30 · 8:00 AM Hains Point Picnic Area · The Wharf

Daily Bird Walks at Hains Point. We're showing up for the birds and the place they call home. Hains Point is for the birds. And for the people who love them. Join DC Bird Alliance and the Maryland Ornithological Society for HOLD THE POINT!, a series of daily bird walks celebrating the extraordinary wildlife, natural beauty, and public spaces of Hains Point in Washington, DC. As plans to transform this cherished landscape into an expanded golf course raise concerns about future access for birders, bikers, runners, walkers, and all those who just want to enjoy the outdoors, we're doing what birders do best: showing up and looking up. Every day, we'll gather to observe the birds that depend on Hains Point, from familiar year-round residents to seasonal migrants passing through our nation's capital. Whether you're a seasoned birder, a curious beginner, or someone who simply loves Hains Point, there's a place for you in the flock. These walks are about more than identifying birds. They're about celebrating a place worth protecting, building community, and reminding ourselves that our public green spaces belong to all of us. What to Expect Our volunteer birding guides will lead a relaxed exploration of Hains Point, with opportunities to observe and learn about local bird species, their habitats, and the importance of preserving urban green spaces. Each walk offers a chance to experience Hains Point through a different lens. The birds may change from day to day, but our commitment to appreciating this special place remains the same. Binoculars are encouraged but not required. Please dress for the weather and bring water. Accessibility 🐢 Pace: Slow and relaxed, with frequent stops for bird observation. 📏 Distance: To be confirmed for each walk. 🪨 Terrain: Primarily paved park roads and paths, with possible uneven surfaces. 🪑 Rest Areas: Limited seating may be available along the route. ♿ Wheelchair Access: Portions of the route are paved. Accessibility may vary depending on the daily route. 🚻 Restrooms: Availability may vary. Please plan accordingly. We welcome birders of all experience levels and abilities. Please contact us in advance with accessibility questions so we can help you determine whether the walk is a good fit. Registration & Participation Registration is required. Please register for the specific date you plan to attend. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, space may be limited. Please do not bring unregistered guests or walk-ups. If your plans change, kindly cancel your registration as early as possible so someone else can participate. All participants must complete DC Bird Alliance's participation waiver before joining the walk. A Place Worth Protecting Hains Point is part of the natural and cultural landscape of Washington, DC. Its trees, shorelines, open spaces, and surrounding waters provide opportunities for people to connect with nature and observe wildlife throughout the year. HOLD THE POINT! is our invitation to experience that natural heritage firsthand. Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is simply show up, pay attention, and share what we see. Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
