PeopleCon 3: A Designed in the DMV Game Market
Sat, Oct 17 · 12:00 PM People’s Book
Join People’s Book in celebrating the joy of physical tabletop games. Now in its third year, and playfully dubbed “PeopleCon 3,” this popular event features zines, journaling games, board games, and accessories — all made by your neighbors! Then at 2:30pm join us inside for a game and book pairing, as designer Talia Rosen and former federal prosecutor Brendan Ballou discuss how games and books depict the United States Supreme Court. Talia Rosen is the designer of First Monday in October, which explores over 200 years of U.S. Supreme Court history, and of the forthcoming tile-laying game Kangaroo Island. She has prototypes in the works on the 2017 broadcast spectrum incentive auction and on the 1974 invasion of Cyprus. She is a long-time writer for The Opinionated Gamers, administrator for BoardGameGeek, and founder of the Columbia Strategic Simulation Society in New York. Talia is an attorney practicing law in northern Virginia. Brendan Ballou is a former federal prosecutor and for two years prosecuted rioters who attacked the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Previously he served as special counsel for private equity in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. He is the author of Plunder: Private Equity’s Plan to Pillage America, which was named one of Fortune magazine’s best books of the year. He frequently appears on CNN and MS NOW and his work has appeared in The New York Times, Politico, Slate, and The Atlantic.
