The Cure for Everything: The Epic Struggle for Public Health

Thu, Oct 15 · 7:00 PM Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library · Downtown DC

The Cure for Everything isn’t a single fix — it’s a way of approaching wellness. Dr. Williams believes real healing happens when your mind, body, and purpose are aligned. With thoughtful programs, personalized guidance, and a clear, supportive approach, she helps people break through what’s holding them back and build healthy habits that last. If you’re looking for clarity, balance, renewed energy, or a full reset, Dr. Williams gives you the tools and direction to make it happen. Her work blends modern medicine, behavioral science, and holistic practices to offer guidance that feels practical, empowering, and truly achievable. Author: Michelle A. Williams is a professor of epidemiology and population health at Stanford University School of Medicine and former Dean of the Faculty at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, where she also served as the Angelopoulos Professor in Public Health and International Development and currently holds an adjunct professorship. An internationally renowned epidemiologist and award-winning educator, Dr. Williams is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the American Epidemiological Society. She has authored more than 550 peer-reviewed research articles and is recognized as a leading voice in public health science and global health. Moderator: Selena Simmons-Duffin reports on health policy for NPR, with a focus on Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., health insurance, reproductive health, and transgender health. She won NLGJA's Excellence in Transgender Coverage Award in 2026 for a scoop about the Trump administration's plans to prohibit Medicaid from paying for gender-affirming care for youth. Since joining the Science Desk in 2019 as a reporter, she's covered CDC during the COVID-19 pandemic, the fallout from the end of Roe v. Wade, and many stories about health insurance, including a story about a man who married his roommate for health benefits. Before becoming a reporter, Simmons-Duffin worked for 10 years as a producer and editor for NPR's flagship programs, Morning Edition and All Things Considered. In 2014, she drove the full length of the U.S.-Mexico border with host Steve Inskeep for the "Borderland" series. Simmons-Duffin is a graduate of Stanford University, where she studied English and started out in radio at KZSU. She studied documentary radio at the Salt Institute before coming to NPR as an intern in 2009. The first 50 attendees will receive a free book.

Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
