Join the History Film Forum at the National Museum of American History for a Halloween season screening of Creature from the Black Lagoon ! Originally filmed for the 3D technology of the 1950s, Creature from the Black Lagoon is a Universal monster movie removed from the castles and tombs of Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Mummy. Directed by Jack Arnold from a screenplay by Harry Essex and Arthur Ross, the film tells the story of a group of scientists who encounter an ancient amphibious humanoid creature while on an expedition to the Amazon. Richard Carlson and Julia Adams star, with Ben Chapman (on land) and Ricou Browning (in the water) sharing the film’s title role, a movie monster also known as the “Gill man.” Before the film, enjoy a rare opportunity to see the original costume gloves used for the “Gill man,” on view from the museum’s collections!
