Join us to Protect the Point with a Halloween twist! Hains Point Hoopla 4.0 Tree stumps and buzzsaws, expensive golf, loud helicopters overhead. Spooky, right? That's not the future we envision for our beloved East Potomac Park. Join us for yet another Hains Point Hoopla with a special Halloween-twist to scream for protections for East Potomac Park. We’re coming together to scream for protections for this great public space demonstrate our support for the park, to protect more trees from being cut, to call for accountability and transparency, and to show solidarity between all park visitors. The future of Hains Point at East Potomac Park is still uncertain. After the government unceremoniously removed more than 500 trees, Judge Reyes called for a Temporary Restraining Order to prevent more tree cutting. There is another hearing scheduled for Monday, October 19th. We’ll be there and we’ll be tracking every comment and next steps. We’re holding the line: Hains Point should be for people! We need a future for the park (with trees!) that continues to support all visitors who enjoy the public space. This event is led by WABA with support from Save East Po, and the DC Preservation League. P.S. If you haven’t already, sign the petition to Save Hains Point for People! Hains Point Rally Location: The rally site is located approximately 1.75 miles from the park entrance. To get there, follow Ohio Drive SW past Buckeye Drive, the golf course entrance/parking lot, and just past the entrance to the picnic area. Look for WABA tents! If you've gone around the turn at the point, you've gone too far! There is a water fountain directly adjacent to the event site. Restrooms are located less than half a mile from the event site at the picnic area.
