Rock Creek Park Maintenance Yard Bird Walk

Sat, Oct 3 · 8:00 AM 5000 Glover Rd NW

Explore one of Rock Creek Park’s favorite migration hotspots with us and search the trees for warblers, thrushes and other fall travelers. Join DC Bird Alliance for a special Birding DC 2026 walk at the Rock Creek Park Maintenance Yard, a well-known spot for catching the movement of birds through DC during fall migration. We’ll take our time exploring the surrounding woodland and forest edges, looking and listening for warblers, thrushes, vireos, woodpeckers and other resident and migrating birds making their way through the park. All levels welcome. Bring binoculars if you have them. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available. 🎒 What to Bring • Layers! Fall mornings can start cool and warm up quickly. • Water and a snack • Comfortable, sturdy shoes suitable for natural and potentially uneven surfaces • Binoculars, if you have them • Insect repellent and sun protection as needed ♿ Accessibility 🐢 Pace: Relaxed birding pace with frequent stops for observation and identification 📏 Distance: Approximately 1–2 miles, depending on bird activity and group pace 🪨 Terrain: A mix of paved and natural surfaces. Participants should expect some uneven ground, roots, rocks, and potentially muddy areas depending on recent weather. ⛰️ Elevation: Some slopes and changes in elevation may be encountered. 🪑 Rest Areas: Limited seating is available along the route. ♿ Wheelchair Access: Portions of the area may be accessible, but the complete bird walk route may include natural surfaces that are not suitable for all mobility devices. 🚻 Restrooms: Restroom availability may be limited. Please plan accordingly. 🎟️ Registration & Attendance Space is limited and registration is required. If your plans change, please cancel your registration as soon as possible so someone on the waitlist has an opportunity to join us. Please note: Repeated no-shows may result in being unable to register for future DC Bird Alliance programs. ⚠️ Release & Waiver of Liability By registering for and participating in this DC Bird Alliance event, you acknowledge that outdoor activities involve inherent risks and agree to the DC Bird Alliance Release and Waiver of Liability. Please review the waiver in full before registering. Come discover why there’s so much more to DC than monuments. See you outside! Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Photo: María-Elena Montero

Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
