The Sound World of Matthew Polenzani and Ken Noda
Mon 9 Nov · 7:00 PM La Maison Française · Georgetown
Join us for an exquisite evening of classical song featuring the acclaimed tenor Matthew Polenzani and pianist Ken Noda. The program opens with Franz Schubert’s profound song cycle, "Schwanengesang." This collection, often considered the composer's final gift to the song repertoire, explores themes of longing, loss, and transcendence through texts by Heine and Rellstab. The second half of the program celebrates the rich warmth of the Italian tradition. Polenzani and Noda will perform a selection of songs and arias by renowned composers such as Francesco Cilea, Ildebrando Pizzetti, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Gaetano Donizetti, and Francesco Paolo Tosti. This segment promises music that speaks directly to the heart, from the passionate ardor of verismo masters to Tosti’s incomparable melodies and Pizzetti’s spiritual lyricism. Matthew Polenzani, celebrated as one of the most admired tenors of his generation, brings a voice of "honeyed beauty and rare expressive intelligence" to these works. Ken Noda's masterful piano accompaniment ensures a seamless and unified performance, allowing voice and piano to speak as one. This is a unique opportunity to experience the artistry of two exceptional musicians. Tickets for this event are $25.
