Trail work trip - Appalachian Trail near Annapolis Rocks
Fri 9 Oct Trailhead in the PATC listing
Join the South Mountaineers trail crew to rehabilitate a section of the AT within the saddle section between US Route 40 and Annapolis Rocks. There are some flat areas within this saddle that collect water and puddle it there which tend to cause some hikers to walk around and make the trail wider. This section is one of the most popular sections of the AT in Maryland, thus receives a lot of use and attracts many that wear improper footwear (sandals, sneakers) to hike this section, those most likely to walk around instead of through the puddles. This project will involve raising the tread with rocks and/or creating a turnpike to inhibit water from collecting and staying on the trail. Rain date Sat October 10.
