Anxious Society: The Criminal Justice System in Wartime
Tue, Nov 17 · 1:00 PM 1957 E St NW · Foggy Bottom
Room 412, Voesar Conference Room. In this talk, Dr. Ekaterina Khodzhaeva will examine how routine criminal law enforcement in Russia has changed since 2022 across all its main levels, from the police and pre-trial investigation to the courts and sentencing. She will focus on changes directly linked to the war and longer- term trends in Russian criminal justice that began earlier and continued after February 2022. Dr. Khodzhaeva will show which processes in the work of the police, investigators and courts continue earlier institutional dynamics, and where wartime has become a factor in its own right that has changed the structure and practices of the criminal justice system.
