Little Women is a timeless tale that’s been adapted over and over again, but no one has adapted quite as perfectly as Greta Gerwig. Starring an A-list cast that includes Saoirse Ronan (reunited from LADY BIRD), Florence Pugh (MIDSOMMAR), Emma Watson (HARRY POTTER series), Eliza Scanlen ( Sharp Objects ), and Timothée Chalamet (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME), Gerwig creates a beautiful story of sisterhood that touches on themes of grief, first loves, and female independence. The film follows four sisters growing up in Massachusetts during the Civil War, each of them ambitious in their own ways. Saoirse Ronan plays the lead of the film, Jo March, a cunning young woman who dreams of telling stories for a living when she is older. She is often befuddled by her sister Meg (Watson), who desires to one day be a wife; is annoyed by Amy (Pugh), who trails after her like a little puppy; and is enamored with Beth (Scanlen), who is perhaps the kindest of them all. Gerwig’s LITTLE WOMEN is like a cozy hug on a brisk winter day. A lovely story that brilliantly balances tears with laughs, it’s no wonder it became an instant holiday classic when it was released in theaters seven years ago.
