Open Studio: Feelings in Color

Sat, Oct 17 · 10:00 AM Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden · National Mall

Get into the art-making spirit in October at Open Studio! Each week we’ll get inspired by a different artwork on view from artists such as Aliza Nisenbaum, Pablo Picasso, Joan Mitchell, and more! Join us this week as we get inspired by the artist, Joan Mitchell and her artwork, Cercando un Ago . Mitchell experienced synesthesia—a neurological condition where the senses overlap, causing one sense to trigger another. This led her to see sounds and feelings as colors. Inspired by her artistic practice, we’ll think about colors and what they mean to us. Meet in Art School on the Museum’s Lower Level. ABOUT OPEN STUDIO Let your creativity run wild at Open Studio! Drop in to explore modern and contemporary art through interactive hands-on activities inspired by the Hirshhorn collection and artworks on view. Open Studio helps you transform your ideas into reality. Every session introduces a new theme and a fresh perspective on art-making. Activities are designed to captivate everyone—from budding young artists to seasoned creators—and allow them to craft, create, and learn. No reservations or tickets are required. Stroller parking is available in the Hirshhorn Lobby and on the Lower Level. If there are services or accommodations that can improve your experience (e.g., ASL interpretation, live captioning, etc.), please contact [email protected] . We appreciate receiving such requests at least one to two weeks in advance. For a group of 10 or more, please contact [email protected] in advance to reserve a program.

Welcome to AskAlice

Hi, I'm Alice.

I go out a lot around DC, Virginia and Maryland, and I got tired of losing hours to Instagram Stories and a dozen venue calendars just to find out what was happening. So I built this to do that watching for me — real, confirmed events pulled from hundreds of sources, sorted so you can find your night instead of hunting for it.
