Truth Over Power: A Center for Journalism & Democracy Speaker Series
Thu, Oct 29 · 6:00 PM Cramton Auditorium · Columbia Heights
Two of the nation’s most fearless voices. One defining moment for American democracy. A conversation at the Mecca. Nikole Hannah-Jones , the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of the 1619 Project; founder of the Center for Journalism & Democracy at Howard University; Knight Chair in Race and Journalism; and New York Times reporter, has spent her career documenting racial inequality and injustice with the kind of rigor and moral clarity that redefines what journalism can do. Her reporting has helped shape a generation's understanding of American history. Ta-Nehisi Coates, is the author of the No. 1 New York Times bestseller Between the World and Me , winner of the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction. He is also the author of the bestselling books The Beautiful Struggle, We Were Eight Years in Power, and The Water Dancer. His numerous books, articles and essays have challenged America to reckon honestly with itself. Together, Hannah-Jones and Coates, whose works have been the target of widespread bans across the nation, will help contextualize this unprecedented moment ahead of an election that will determine whether American democracy will hold. Kimberly R. Moffitt, Dean of the Cathy Hughes School of Communications at Howard University, will moderate the conversation. Although this is a free event, registration is required to attend. Please be advised that if you do not arrive by 6 p.m., your tickets will be released. Doors open for check-in at 5:30 p.m., and the program will begin promptly at 6 p.m. Contact Us: Center for Journalism & Democracy Howard University Email : [email protected] Follow Us: Website Center for Journalism & Democracy | Instagram | LinkedIn
